So, how did we end up with this website about a game called “vacation time”?
who created the game? And why? And how? And when?
And why is that pigeon everywhere?
good questions!
(weird name, i know)
on july 30th 2015 ids
wrote an email to his friend soraya. The mail started with:
“like i said... i have this idea for a game in my head for a while now...”
translated from dutch by the way
we decided to work out the idea and really create the game.
so, we opened a google sheet, thought of locations and characters. we bought some coloring markers and we made a very simple version of the game on small pieces of paper.
we played the game with friends and family, and we figured out it worked pretty well. So we tweaked it a bit and made a less ugly version of the game on bigger pieces of paper.
we played it some more, and even kept track of who played and when and what was the score and what should we keep in mind, etc. etc. etc.
and then we both got our first real job.
three years later ids worked with a nice guy called Mitchel and decided to pick up the game and see where it could go! but simply put... it didn't go anywhere.
and suddenly it was 2024.
Soraya now has two kids and ids just quit his job. he spoke to old school friend solco, who turned out to be in between jobs as well, just as his friend mattijs.
(als a weird name, i know)
and so, nine years later, these three jobless dutch guys decided to pick up vacation time again! and this time for the long run.
here's a few examples of how the cards evolved over time
version one looked like this
74mmx50.25mm
version two like this
105mmx74mm
now it looks like this
94mmx62mm
the benefits of waiting for nine years?
and what's next? we're doing the final testing with a lot of people and are exploring ways to bring it to the market.
oh by the way, The title of that first email ids wrote to soraya in 2015 was ‘vacation time’
but we're now thinking we should perrhaps change it to ‘dream trips’
-
oh, why am i around? because Ids really likes pigeons. that's it. and you always see them wherever you go. but yeah, mostly because ids likes pigeons.
